Teachers & Staff

We have two dedicated and highly qualified teachers, Carmen and Claire. They each have the highest certification in Early Childhood Education, kids of their own, and a love for inspiring children to learn. Heidi is our part-time Educational Assistant in the afternoon classes. Lindsey Madden is our part-time Administrative Assistant in the office. We do not have a Director or Principal since our organization is directed by our board of parent volunteers.

Carmen Haase joined Canmore Preschool in 2008. Many years as a summer recreation “Tot Lot” leader and supervisor inspired Carmen to pursue studies in education. She graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science from McMaster University and later with a Bachelor of Education with additional qualifications in Outdoor and Experiential Education from Queen’s University.

Carmen has made Canmore home since 1996 and feels very fortunate to live here with her husband and three children. She has worked for many years in the hospitality sector, as a mom, and more recently, as a childcare provider and a weekend supervisor for the Canmore Bow Valley Parent Link Centre.

Students will find a variety of learning experiences in Carmen’s classroom. There will be many different ways to celebrate the current theme and opportunities to explore spontaneous interests. Students will have the oportunity to move through a variety of interesting activity centres, create with familiar and new materials and discover more about themselves as they learn more about their classmates. With senses alerted for the next adventrue, we will be ready to further explore our community and the world around us. Students will come together as a group for calendar time, circle time and story time with opportunities to sing, engage in dramatic play, discussion and fun!

With the belief that no child blooms the same way, Carmen looks forward to working with the preschool team and families to create positive first school experiences for our students.

Claire Cresenciaclaire
When Claire joined the Preschool team in fall 2016, she brought with her a wealth of experience and certifications in Early Childhood Development. She worked at Canmore Community Daycare from 2004-2016 in a variety of roles – from classroom teacher to Before and After School Care program coordinator to Assistant Director to Acting Executive Director.
All of us at Preschool enjoyed working with Claire over the years as partners sharing the Roundhouse facility, so we are absolutely thrilled to work more closely with her in the future. We are confident she will be a great addition to our team!
From Claire: “I look forward to finding myself back in the classroom to inspire and be inspired by your children. I have a love for the great outdoors and taking every opportunity as a learning experience.”
Heidi Ward Achenbach

Heidi came to Canmore Preschool in 2014 as a Class Assistant after many years of involvement with the preschool as a parent-volunteer in the classroom, as well as a board member and as janitorial staff. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Environmental Studies which frames her desire to help children approach nature and the broader world with respect and curiosity. Heidi’s 7 years of working for Parks Canada in a customer service and custodial role enables her to take-on a range of hands-on tasks within the preschool classrooms with a smile. She particularly enjoys fostering the emerging independence and confidence of the children in class, and assisting them with learning new skills to build friendships and healthy relationships with other members of the community.

Heidi’s other passions include spending time with her daughter, frequenting the thrift store, daily walks with her dog, hiking and camping. Heidi has lived in the Bow Valley for almost 20 years and shares her life here with her husband, daughter and their 3 happy pets.

Lindsey Madden joined the Preschool team in January 2016 as our part-time Administrative Assistant. Lindsey has degrees in Art and English Literature, and several years experience in non-profit administration for the National Outdoor Leadership School in Wyoming and Outward Bound Canada here in Canmore. She enjoys backpacking, whitewater canoeing, and creating art and science projects with her two daughters – both of whom are former Canmore Preschoolers.
