This is the info from 2019-2020. Our board is currently making final decisions about fees and schedule for 2020-2021, but it will likely be similar to what you see here. Our registration will open online on February 1st, 2020.
The four pillars of Canmore Preschool are –
- Fun ♥
- Socialization ♥
- Cognitive and Physical Development ♥
- Community ♥
Studies have shown that attending preschool has long-term positive effects on our children. Future education, relationships, careers, happiness…however you measure success, preschool provides a step up.
And yet, our classes often look like playtime! The same studies have shown that the most effective approach to early education is a mix of teacher-directed activities and child-directed exploration. Children learn through play.
As children learn to share and progress from parallel play to cooperative play, they develop their first friendships with peers. Along the way we demonstrate and encourage children to show respect and empathy – for themselves, their peers, their teachers, and visitors to the class – for everyone!
COGNITIVE AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
With daily opportunities for social play, arts and crafts, stories, songs, physical activity either in the gym or outside, and games that teach colours, shapes, letters, numbers, counting, and patterning, we provide all the materials your child needs to thrive, develop new skills, and move up to kindergarten with confidence.
As a non-profit, parent-run, licensed program, founded in 1972, Canmore Preschool has deep roots in our community. We enjoy having parents in the classroom, and welcome many community visitors each year – firefighters, librarians, Alberta Parks educators, RCMP… We want our classes to reflect the diversity and strength of our community!
Pre-K, get ready for a day of fun in the snow! On Wednesday, March 13, TrailSports and the Nordic Centre are once again hosting our Pre-K classes for ski lessons.
- Pre-K will have no regular classes this day and should meet at the Nordic Centre for their 1-hour lesson. (See schedule below.)
- Permission slips will be in cubbies in February. Please return them by March 6th.
- Each child must wear a helmet.
- Each student must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Depending on the ability and experience of your child, one adult could be responsible for 2-3 children.
This is always an exciting outing, and we hope you can join us!

We will try to find the answers to these and many other questions preschoolers might have. Children will enjoy captivating demonstrations, perform simple science experiments, and discover how science can help us to better understand the world around us.
