Gone Fishing: Covid-19 Closure March-August

Due to the novel coronavirus Covid-19, all preschools, daycares, and schools K-12 in the province of Alberta are closed until further notice.

Preschool staff have been temporarily laid off. We will be in touch with all current preschool families once we are allowed to reopen. You can email questions to info@canmorepreschool.com. We will check email approximately once a week during the closure. If you require urgent assistance you can call our volunteer Board Chairperson, Rachel Lippitt – (403) 675-4045.

Registration for next school year is still open here on our website. The online system reflects current class availability.

We will send you all the details for the start of school in late August. Office hours will resume on August 31st. Preschool classes begin September 8th & 9th, 2020.

Thank you and stay well!

Why attend preschool & PreK? Here’s what we offer…

The four pillars of Canmore Preschool are –

  1. Fun ♥
  2. Socialization ♥
  3. Cognitive and Physical Development ♥
  4. Community ♥

Studies have shown that attending preschool has long-term positive effects on our children. Future education, relationships, careers, happiness…however you measure success, preschool provides a step up.

And yet, our classes often look like playtime! The same studies have shown that the most effective approach to early education is a mix of teacher-directed activities and child-directed exploration. Children learn through play.

SOCIALIZATIONDSCN1055

As children learn to share and progress from parallel play to cooperative play, they develop their first friendships with peers. Along the way we demonstrate and encourage children to show respect and empathy – for themselves, their peers, their teachers, and visitors to the class – for everyone!

COGNITIVE AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

Body Moves class.IMG_2461With daily opportunities for social play, arts and crafts, stories, songs, physical activity either in the gym or outside, and games that teach colours, shapes, letters, numbers, counting, and patterning, we provide all the materials your child needs to thrive, develop new skills, and move up to kindergarten with confidence.

COMMUNITYDSCN0953Sparky the Fire Dog

As a non-profit, parent-run, licensed program, founded in 1972, Canmore Preschool has deep roots in our community. We enjoy having parents in the classroom, and welcome many community visitors each year – firefighters, librarians, Alberta Parks educators, RCMP… We want our classes to reflect the diversity and strength of our community!

Register for 2017-2018 online now – and attend AGM on March 1st!

You may now submit your registration for 2017-2018 by clicking on the orange button above and to the right.

Families who attend our AGM & Registration Night at 7pm, March 1st, at the Holiday Inn (1 Silvertip Trail, Nakiska Room) are placed in classes before those who do not attend. So please remember to come to the meeting! We will keep it short and sweet.

After the AGM, registration is first come first served, if there are still spaces available.

Before we can make class lists in March, we need to have a full board of volunteers for 2017-2018. Here are descriptions of available positions. Board members’ children are guaranteed their class placement, and it fulfills your volunteer hours, so give us a call to join the board!

Welcome to Our New Teacher – Claire Cresencia

Hello Canmore Preschool Families,
We are pleased to announce that our board has hired Claire Cresencia as our new Preschool Teacher!
 claire
Claire comes to us with a wealth of experience and certifications in Early Childhood Development. She has worked at Canmore Community Daycare
since 2004 in a variety of roles – from classroom teacher to Before and After School Care program coordinator to her most recent role as Assistant Director.
All of us at Preschool have enjoyed working with Claire over the years as partners sharing the Roundhouse facility, so we are absolutely thrilled to work more closely with her in the future. Claire will teach a morning Pre-K 4-year-old class, a morning Preschool 3-year-old class, and the afternoon Preschool 3-Year-old class. We are confident she will be a great addition to our team!
From Claire: “I look forward to finding myself back in the classroom to inspire and be inspired by your children. I have a love for the great outdoors and taking every opportunity as a learning experience.”
Welcome, Ms. Claire! We are looking forward to September. Enjoy your summer everyone.
Sincerely,
Ms. Lindsey & Ms. Carmen

Registration Night & AGM – March 9, 2016 – 7pm – at the Holiday Inn

Canmore Preschool Registration Night & Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the 2016-17 school year will be held:Annual General Meeting

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

7:00 p.m.

Holiday Inn, 1 Silvertip Trail, Canmore. (Nakiska Room, Level P)

Please click the button to the upper right to submit your registration forms and fee online. Specific class placements will still be determined by the Preschool after AGM. We ask all families to attend AGM on March 9, 2016, and families that attend will be placed in classes first.

Online registration is new for the 2016-2017 school year, so we will still accept paper forms at the AGM if necessary, but we appreciate you trying the new system! The system will ask you to Register for a 3yo or 4yo student, to complete the registration forms, and pay the $45 registration fee. For 2016-2017, 3yo classes are intended for children born in 2013, and 4yo classes for children born in 2012.

If you wish to register for 2016-2017 but cannot attend the AGM, please call the office to discuss your situation – 403-678-2538.

The Annual General Meeting will last about an hour. We recommend attending without kids in order to focus on business and wrap up as soon as possible. We are working on arrangements to provide some childcare on site for those who need it.

The first order of business for the AGM is to make sure we have a full complement of board members for the coming school year. As a cooperative, non-profit organization, the Canmore Preschool cannot operate without these volunteers. We have some returning members for 2016-2017, but some positions remain to be filled. The children of board members will be guaranteed their class placement! Call the office at 403-678-2538, if you are interested in volunteering, or look for the sign-up sheets in the lobby.

The second order of business is registration for the 2016-2017 school year. If there are too many applicants for a class, all registrations submitted (whether online or on paper) by those attending the meeting will be assigned class placements on a lottery system. Parents must attend the meeting for their child to enter the lottery. All registrations submitted after Registration Night will be placed or waitlisted in the order they are submitted, as space allows.

Thanks!
